Price Hike!

For the first time in four years the Trustees have had to increase our prices. Last year there was only £550 between income and expenditure. Not enough to cover an emergency. Recently the government decided that we should pay for an annual licence, and a bar licensee, and from mid-March we have to pay £100 a year to have the bin emptied. In fact the latter was something that appears to have been overlooked for some years, so we are grateful for past free emptying. The new tariffs are on the "Hire" page, and operate from 1st April 2008.

Spick & Span?

Well, not quite. We apologise to users for the deterioration in cleaning standards. The Trustees are actively seeking new providers.

LOOKING FOR A VACANT SPACE ?

We have various mornings available for hire during the week.

Maybe somebody would like to run some kind of class, say ballroom dancing, or belly dancing, or some kind of craft perhaps, or a set period of months as a trial on Friday evenings. Please ring Andrew Free on 01 757 249066 to arrange it.

Upgrading of the premises is a constant activity. Recently the floor of the bar was replaced with a special surface required by the Health and Safety people during the Health and Safety survey. Our wooden stepladders have been replaced by a sturdy aluminium stepladder. Our electrical items are PAT tested. We have an annual Electrical test. Recently the gas boiler controls had been interfered with and we had to get an engineer out to put them right. Something that should not have been put in the toilets blocked one of them, and out came the plumber to rod everything out; appropriate containers are available in each of the Ladies toilets. In August 2008 we hope to replace the entire floor of both public rooms. We are saving up to pay for wheelchair ramps for the exits at the back of the Institute. It all costs a lot of money, and we have had to increase our present modest charges a little in April 2008.

Incidentally, the Government's new licensing system cost us an initial £430.00, and then £70.00 a year when previously it had been free.

Children's Parties: The Institute is an ideal venue. There is plenty of space, and the electronic locking system adds to the children's security. Ring Andrew on 01 757 249066. Don't hesitate to ask. Most weekday evenings are usually booked up, but always feel free to ask if you would like to book an event, or start a course of some sort in the evening. We are of course keen to have more use made of the premises in the morning and afternoon, here we have a number of vacancies.

PLEASE NOTE: Fountains Close is a private road. Parking is exclusive to the houses in the Close. Vehicles using the Institute may park on the gravelled area adjoining the Close opposite the end of the Institute building. There is No Parking on Fountains Close at the end of the Institute. As well as being access for the residents, it is also the access for emergency vehicles.
